B2B Mobile Money in Cameroon: MTN MoMo and Orange Money for businesses
In Cameroon, Mobile Money has become the number-one payment method — including for companies. But moving from personal to corporate usage requires structure: otherwise you get opacity, hit limits, and run into compliance issues.
The 3-layer architecture
Solid corporate usage rests on three levels:
- Corporate wallet — a single account at the operator (MTN or Orange), funded by bank transfer, with automatic top-up below a threshold.
- Employee sub-wallets — virtual budget allocation per employee, with no physical movement: the separation is accounting-only.
- Payment methods — the employee's MoMo number, a corporate SIM or a virtual card, with the same policy controls everywhere.
The limits to know
On MTN MoMo, expect a cap of 1,000,000 FCFA per transaction and a B2B supplier maximum around 500,000 FCFA (beyond that, a bank transfer is preferable). These thresholds should never be hard-coded: they are configured per company.
BEAC compliance
The regulatory framework (BEAC regulation on electronic money institutions, the GIMAC switch) requires payment idempotency, callback deduplication and full traceability. Every operation must be reconciled and journaled (account 5711 — Mobile Money cash).
How FRiQ orchestrates it
FRiQ manages the corporate wallet, sub-wallets, per-tenant limits and automatic reconciliation into SYSCOHADA accounting — with circuit breakers on operator APIs and exactly-once on payments.
